Types of essays
To start, we can generalize and say there are two types of essays: (1) Formal and (2) Informal. (However, there really isnt such a thing as an informal essay. It is but that some essay formats are stricter than others.)

Formal essays
Formal essays ingest a format. That means that they are organized in a deliberate and specific way. For our purposes, we will use the Five carve up Essay Model.

5.Conclusion
The Five Paragraph Essay Model is often used when writing define papers and rail line papers.

Position Papers: You compress a view (side) of a debate and prove your position to be the correct/better one. (Comparative, a vs. b)
Argument Paper: An argument paper is similar to a position paper in that youre trying to prove or argue a point.



However, it is different in that there is no opposite or directly contradictory point. (One statement, one subject, dont compare a with b, but just describe/carry on with a)

Breaking down the Paragraphs:
These paragraphs serve the same purposes regardless of whether youre writing a position paper or an argument paper - with a couple small differences.
1.Introduction: The origination introduced the topic/subject or, in the case of a position paper, the debate. To do this, it highlights important background information. Your introduction closes with your dissertation statement and a statement of your 3 supporting arguments.
